9/17/08 - Fr, Bill - The Lessons appointed for use on the feast of Hildegard, Abbess of Bingen. Hildegard was a poet, scientist, doctor, composer, dramatist and a mystic. Hildegard of Bingen (Germany, 1098-1179) was a remarkable woman. At age 8, Hildegard was sent to a convent in Disibodenberg, and was educated by an anchoress named Jutta. After Juttas' death, when Hildegard was 38 years of age, she was elected Abbess of the convent. She eventually moved the convent to Bingen, and founded another convent in Eibingen. Hildegard, produced major works of theology and visionary writings. When few women were accorded respect, she was consulted by and advised bishops, popes and kings. 10/05/08 - Fr. Bill - This Sunday Sermon begins with reference to the prayer at the top of page 324 BCP. A reminder of the 1st, and 2nd commandments which are indeed greatest of the ten. The heart of this wonderful sermon speaks of a loving and caring God, who wants us to live without harming one another, without lust for the pleasures of the world, without envy of the possessions of others, and without greed. Fr. Bill tells us God the Father would rather we go forward with a soft heart full of love and compassion for the needs of less fortunate brothers, sisters and children of the world. Bill so eloquently relates to acts of compassion and his experiences in Haiti. One of Fr. Bill's best, and so appropriate for the season of giving to those in need.
